One of six Christmas books written by William Makepeace Thackeray in the mid-19th century, intended to be bought and given as gifts during the Christmas holiday - they were amazingly successful. Thackeray was a contemporary of the great Charles Dickens and regularly competed with him for sales. Rebecca and Rowena was written to be a continuation of the story of Sir Walter Scott's much venerated novel Ivanhoe; albeit with a somewhat humorous twist. A delightful tale and quite the distinctive and collectible tome - a marvelous section of Captured Tyme!
